Dental Assistant Career Training Classes to Meet High Community Demands
ST. LOUIS (November 8, 2010) – Everest College recently added a new Dental Assistant program at its St. Louis campus to meet workforce demands. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this industry is projected to grow by 36 percent between 2008 and 2018. Students can now receive hands-on dental assistant training, which includes basic dental sciences, proficiency in laboratory and clinical skills, and practical experience.
“There is a high demand in our community for dental assistants,” said Chad Freeman, president of the Everest’s St. Louis campus. “This program can prepare students by teaching them the necessary skills to become successful dental assistants and can bring knowledgeable experts into the field.”
Dental Assistant Program
Everest College’s Dental Assistant program includes hands-on instruction in dental office procedures, emergencies, dental radiography, chairside dentistry, dental anatomy in every dental specialty, including orthodontics, as well as a variety of patient care, front office and laboratory duties. During the eight-month program, students gain basic knowledge of major equipment such as X-ray units, dental equipment, such as digital ultrasonic units, oxygen tanks, oral evacuation equipment and more. After students complete all coursework and labwork, they are assigned to a dental assisting externship at a dental office to better prepare for careers with dental offices, dental supply manufacturers, dental departments in hospital settings, insurance companies and more.
