Excellent Job Growth Projected for Medical Assistants in Cobb County, Ga.
Posted Friday, Apr 15, 2011 by Allen B. Ury
The job picture for medical assistants in Marietta and other parts of Cobb County, Ga., remains upbeat. Last decade, the Georgia Department of Labor’s Department of Workforce Information & Analysis projected job growth for medical assistants of 47.7 percent between 2006 and 2016.* The long-term growth rate is also 47 percent for Georgia as a whole in the department’s most recent projection for the 10 years between 2008 and 2018.**
If you live in the Marietta area, you can train for a medical assistant career at Everest Institute. This eight month program helps provide students with the education and experience they need to compete for entry-level positions in this growing and reward career field.
The Medical Assistant Curriculum
Everest’s Medical Assistant program is divided into eight learning units called modules. The first seven modules, A through G, are classroom modules that stand alone as a unit of study and are not dependent upon the completion of any previous or subsequent section. Students may enter the program in any of the seven modules and continue through these modules until all have been completed. These modules are:
A – Patient Care and Communication
B – Clinical Assisting and Pharmacology
C – Health Insurance, Bookkeeping and Health Sciences
D – Cardiopulmonary and Electrocardiography
E – Laboratory Procedures
F – Endocrinology and Reproduction
G – Medical Law, Ethics and Psychology
Following the successful completion of these seven modules, students participate in a 160-hour externship. This is a supervised, practical in-service in a medical office or clinic in which the student gets to practice the clinical and administrative aspects of the job in a real-world setting.
Upon graduation, students in the Medical Assistant program can take advantage of Everest’s Career Services department. There, experienced representatives help students identify and contact local employers. They also help students prepare winning resumes, practice effective interviewing techniques and even select their interview wardrobe.
