Students at Everest College – Arlington Visit Supreme Court
Posted Monday, Apr 21, 2008 by admin
Last month, 18 Everest College – Arlington students, along with Paralegal Professor Greg Smith and Professor Zachary Kinney, went to the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the oral arguments for the DC v. Heller case. This was a historic day and a historic case.
The Heller case examines whether or not the 1976 DC Gun Control Law, the most restrictive in the U.S., violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
DC v. Heller is the first case in 70 years that the U.S. Supreme Court has heard arguing the Second Amendment.
Despite the cold, nearly 70 people had slept outside the courthouse for two days in sleeping bags to hear this historic case. The Everest students stood in line with over 500 people to hear the case.
“I can’t believe that we made it into the U.S. Supreme Court,” commented Professor Zachary Kinney.”
The over two hour wait was well worth it to witness history in the making.
We represented Everest well on this day and I will never forget it. The students were awe struck and fired up at the event.”
