Do you have strong editing skills and command of the English language? You can join an exciting, growing profession with an abundance of job opportunities in the field of Scoping Technology. As a scopist, you will be employed generally by court reporters to edit and proofread transcripts.

You will gain the necessary skills to review a rough copy of a transcript, proofing the stenograph-to-English translation to check for any mistakes. A transcript can take many forms, including a file saved on a disk, an e-mail file, or a computer display that is connected to a court reporter's machine.

The Scoping Technology program emphasizes the following skills:

• Editing transcripts
• Employing proper punctuation
• Utilizing correct usage of the English language
• Ensuring proper format

You will make any necessary changes to a transcript, ensure that it is in the correct form send it back to the court reporter. Errors may include homophones, such as using “here” instead of "hear,” as well as proper names or technical terms that are not included in a computer dictionary.
