Medical Assisting
Courses
Students in our medical assisting program will study a broad range of subjects to provide insight and training in the medical and administrative roles needed. Medical Assisting courses include training in:
- Patient Care and Communication
- Clinical Assisting and Pharmacology
- Medical Insurance, Bookkeeping and Health Sciences
- Cardiopulmonary and Electrocardiography
- Laboratory Procedures
- Endocrinology and Reproduction
- Medical Law, Ethics, and Psychology
Medical Assisting students will study the structure and function of the major body systems. Medical Assisting students also study medical terminology, bookkeeping, and the processing of medical insurance forms and claims.
After graduating from the medical assisting program, medical assistant graduates will be prepared to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate terminology for the different body systems, illnesses and injuries associated with those systems, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Apply principles of infection control and use appropriate aseptic techniques
- Perform clinical responsibilities, including preparing patients for examination and procedures, preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician
- Identify minor surgical procedures and demonstrate the ability to assist with those procedures
- Demonstrate skills related to word processing, medical transcription, and processing of insurance claims
- Implement current procedural terminology and ICD-9 Coding
- Accurately complete bookkeeping, banking, and financial procedures
